Viña Montes Conducts Chile’s First Live Interactive Webinar

Renowned for discovering new terroirs in Chile and beyond, innovative Chilean winery Montes S.A. has taken its exploratory skills one step further—by holding the first LIVE interactive webinar over the internet from the winery in Chile.
The webinar—a live interactive web conference in which the transmission of video feed is in one direction only—took place on Tuesday, June 5th. Fifty participants from across the United States and Europe were able to participate from the comfort of their homes and offices.
The webinar began with a lively two minute introductory video showcasing the diverse terroirs of Montes vineyards in Leyda and Colchagua, then transitioned to a live video feed of Chief Winemaker and Partner Aurelio Montes at the winery. Viewers were able to watch Aurelio speaking on a left hand screen, and view his powerpoint presentation in full on the right.
Aurelio’s strong presence, warm manner, and intricate knowledge captivated viewers. Excited from the start about interacting with journalists through this new medium, he stated, “As the world grows smaller, and our schedules that much busier, we find this technology a fascinating way to communicate with so many of you that we have not yet had the opportunity to meet.”
His presentation was centered on three topics: Chile as a winemaker’s paradise; the distinctive terroir of Leyda, Marchigüe and Apalta; and an introduction of his latest wines—Montes Limited Selection Leyda Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon 2005, and Montes Folly 2004. Also included in this special presentation to further illustrate the stylistic differences in terroir were barrel samples of two Syrah’s – one from the vineyards of Marchigüe, and one from the Apalta vineyards.
During the event, participants made use of seminar materials and samples of showcased wines they received by mail. They also had the opportunity to enter any questions that they had in the bottom of the webinar viewing screen. Many of these questions were answered live by Aurelio in the last ten minutes of the program.
